SHE-LOGY: KATHRYN BIGELOW was the first, and to date the only, female director to ever win the Academy Award for Best Directing. The movie was The Hurt Locker (2009), which also won Best PictureKathryn won over, among other nominees, former husband, director James Cameron and his big hit Avatar.

Before Kathryn Bigelow, there were only THREE women who have ever been nominated for Best Directing.

  1. Lina Wertmüller for Seven Beauties (1976).
  2. Jane Campion for The Piano (1993).
  3. Sofia Coppola for Lost in Translation (2003).
