Remember Emelin of Guatemala from my She-logy post last week “ELBA EMELIN JUANY?
If you wonder what this teenage girl from Guatemala is doing now, a year after their little movie for the Let Girls Lead initiative was released, well, nothing much…just addressing the U.N. alongside U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Melinda Gates!
Last week, she was invited to speak at the U.N.’s “Every Woman Every Child” program, where she talked about her community and the struggles of teenage girls.
"Perhaps I could be a president for my community or my country and in that way have more chances or opportunity to help children and adolescents."
She has truly come a long way from being teased as a girl to believing that she can actually lead her community, her country.
She is an example of what a girl can do if you give her a chance, a voice, a mentor, an audience. She is an example of what a girl can do if you let her, if you let her lead.
What we tell our girls MATTER.
SHE-LOGY is a blog project open to everyone who is interested to celebrate women this whole month of March. If you’re reading this, I extend that invitation to you to contribute post/s about the women you’d like to honor. You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for reading this.
