SHE-LOGY: Funny Women and Body Image

Actress, comedian, writer, producer.

Created and starred comedy sitcom The Mindy Project.

“I always get asked, ‘Where do you get your confidence?’ I think people are well meaning, but it’s pretty insulting. Because what it means to me is, ‘You, Mindy Kaling, have all the trappings of a very marginalized person. You’re not skinny, you’re not white, you’re a woman. Why on earth would you feel like you’re worth anything?’”

Her Elle magazine cover sparked controversies. Out of the 4 actresses who were on the cover, she was the only one on close-up and in black and white.

Actress, comedian, writer, producer.

Recipient of Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2011 for Mike & Molly.

Garnered numerous nominations for her performance in the hit movie Bridesmaids, including Academy Award, BAFTA Award, SAG Award.

On being called America’s Plus-Sized Sweetheart: “It’s like I’m managing to achieve all this success in spite of my affliction … Would you ever put that in the headline for a male star?”

Her Elle magazine cover also sparked controversies. Unlike the other actresses gracing the Elle cover that month, she was the only one covered in an oversized coat.

Actress, writer, stand-up comedian, entrepreneur.

Starred in the musical-comedy Pitch Perfect (and the upcoming sequel), which earned her several award nominations.

“I don’t really care what I look like that much, and I think women out there should just be happy with the way they look. They shouldn’t really try to conform to any kind of stereotype. Just be happy and hopefully healthy.”

SHE-LOGY is a blog project open to everyone who is interested to celebrate women this whole month of March. If you’re reading this, I extend that invitation to you to contribute post/s about the women you’d like to honor. You can email me at silverliningmama@gmail.com. Thank you for reading this.
