Let’s Send Kids To Harvard

I’m a big fan of Humans of New York, along with 2.4m followers on Instagram. I am drawn to the stories of the people around the city that the creator photograph and interview. Poignant, touching, funny –all real life stories.

The Humans of New York community is currently holding a campaign to institute an annual class trip to Harvard for students in a Brooklyn school, in a neighborhood that’s said to have the highest crime rate in New York.

What’s special about this is how the fundraiser was created out of a random encounter with a 13-year old boy by the photographer behind HONY. The goal was to raise only $100,000, but in 4 days, the community raised more than $700,000! What a powerful thing social media can be! And what a big difference we can make if we work together. That’s why I am sharing this with you, if you still haven’t followed HONY yet.

I invite you to read about the story of this young boy, Vidal, his super woman of a principal, Ms Nadia (@thelopezeffect), and the Humans of New York (@humansofny).
