Thanksgiving Week makes many of us take a pause to reflect on what we are most grateful for this year. It is easy to make a long list out of this exercise. And that alone is one more reason to be grateful. Here’s a challenge: What is the ONE thing you are most grateful for this year?
For 2014, I am most thankful for INSPIRATION. This year has been my most creative year. I look around my home, my journals, my photo albums, and my little nooks around social media, and I am feeling mighty proud and overjoyed to see the things that I have learned and made. They were no longer pinned items in my Pinterest boards, no longer items in my Must Do Someday checklist, no longer photos in my vision board, no longer New Year’s resolutions. These are real things now. Concrete things. Many of these things were old items in my To Do list that never got done while I was busy at work. And while I had been a stay-at-home mom for over 3 years, it was only this year that they happened.
They didn’t happen because I had more time and energy. They happened because I was inspired. What normally takes days to create, I am able to complete in hours, because I am inspired. Inspiration is a very powerful force. I am particularly grateful for those inspired moments that have spurred me to complete those little projects. I baked. I tried new recipes. I created DIY projects. I sewed. I planted. I completed home improvements. I started blogging and stuck to it (well, so far). I started writing. I read books. I took better photos. I learned new things. I organized. I made new friends. And the list goes on…
Inspiration is like God’s Grace. You don’t do anything to deserve it. It is simply bestowed upon you and with it the outpouring of blessings, some of them you didn’t even ask for. You seek inspiration, but most times, it finds you. And it strikes you hard, it can make you mad. You don’t think of anything else except getting it done, making it happen. Extreme examples of this mad inspiration can be found in the greatest masterpieces. In the works of Van Gogh, of Beethoven, of Da Vinci, of Michelangelo.
In my case, inspiration came to me mostly in the form of the amazing works of the Wonder Moms of Social Media. From Pinterest to Instagram to blogs. I am awestruck by the many, many, MANY moms out there who are doing tremendously beautiful things. Stay-at-home moms who are also bloggers, photographers, writers, designers, entrepreneurs, travelers, and the list goes on. You have all been an inspiration. An ideal to aspire for. Thank you for sharing your passions and your creations, your beliefs and your principles, your life lessons and advices, your thoughts and your talents. Thank you for letting us into your homes, for sharing your beautiful family, and for your friendship. I am blown away by how creative you are. Thank you for being my inspiration!
